Alternative Therapies

Alternative therapies are treatments that fall outside of mainstream healthcare. Alternative therapy tends to be holistic and includes therapies from various historical and cultural backgrounds. It often needs you to take an active part in your own treatment with lifestyle changes (e.g. diet, exercise, meditation or psychological exercises). Alternative therapy features therapies that are diverse in nature and origins. The ways in which these therapies are thought to work are also diverse, although many are based on the idea of enabling your body’s ability to heal itself.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a type of complementary therapy that uses hypnosis, which is an altered state of consciousness. Hypnosis is widely promoted as a treatment for various long-term conditions and for breaking certain habits.

Massage therapy

Massage therapy involves the rubbing and kneading of soft tissues and muscles in the human body. This is to promote healing and enhance a person’s health and well-being. It involves touch and manipulation techniques to move muscles and body tissue. The aim is to relieve stress, tension, pain and a whole host of other ailments.

Rieki/Rieki Master

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by laying on hands and is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If your life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

With the master attunement, we receive the opportunity to open more and more completely to the limitless potential of Reiki and to develop in ourselves the qualities that are contained in the Reiki energy. Being a Reiki master can be an ongoing process involving continuous personal growth.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and aim to work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health for their clients. It can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles of the body. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. These naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture.
